OPEN-i Webinar: Photographic the Personal

This session featured work by photographers that have stayed close to home by documenting their own families, each using their cameras as tools to help them document and understand grief and illness, and their work is as much about them as about their family. The photographers reflect on their experiences, and reflect on trying to be a photographer as well as a sister or brother, daughter or son.

My most succesful work to date was work on my own family being affected by my Grandfathers PROGRESSIVE Dementia from 2006-2010.
It one an award in Brazil & Exhibited there, as wella s being a finalist in ITSWeb 7, on the strength of this work I was admitted on Paul Lowes run MA in Doc photography at LCC.
The comments & feedbacks I mostly got back from my peers and tutors is that the work is beautiful and strong but editors publications etc may sometimes not be coinvinced by a perssonal project especially on ones own family that I could also complete a foreign project etc with the same emotion, strength and closeness?

These photographers obviously proove otherwise?...or they have divers portfolios as well..what are other people thoughts on this?
Because I have entered the work for several other competitions and awards rangeing from the Ian parry to Sony world photo competition without success.
Thanks

Price of Gold at TIFF BELL LIGHTBOX 1

May 6, 2012 from 1:30pm to 3pm
There’s a gold rush in Mongolia, and much like the North American gold rushes at the turn of the 20th century, it has become a capitalist free-for-all where concern for the individual or the environment takes a backseat to the profit margin. Foreign corporations have mined the Mongolian land, but now close to 10,000 rogue Mongolian nomads, known as Ninjas, have begun prospecting for the leftovers. Small independent crews, without the aid of modern technology or equipment, risk their lives…See More
