Syrian photographer Carole Alfarah was born in 1981 in Damascus, Syria. In 2004 she studied the basic principles of photography at the Contrast Photography School in Brussels, Belgium. She launched her freelance career in 2007 in Syria where she began working with Syrian and regional magazines and newspapers. In 2008, Carole was selected to be the official photographer for the Arab Capital of Culture festivities when they were hosted in Damascus.
In 2009 and 2010 she participated in a online photojournalism training course offered to photographers from the Middle East and North Africa and run by the World Press Photo Foundation.
Carole's work has been published in the Le Monde, the Wall Street Journal and Syria Today Magazine. Through the photo agency Polaris, Carole’s work has appeared in Newsweek and Time, among others.
In 2011 Carole received the UNICEF Prize of Arab Media Award for Children’s Rights, for the photo project “Innocent in the Streets of Damascus.”
Carole is currently based in Damascus with her interests focusing on covering human and social issues, and political events in the Middle East region.
