- Alice Smeets est né dans la partie germanophone de la Belgique en 1987. Fascinée au sujet de la photographie documentaire, elle a appris de ses compétences, en assistant le photographe de Magnum, Philip Jones Griffiths.
Elle est axée sur la photographie sociale et culturelle, à l'heure actuelle elle se concentre sur Haïti ainsi que de la sorcellerie moderne en Europe et aux États-Unis.
Alice a remporté le prix de l'Unicef Photo de l'année 2008 et le Canon Profifoto Förderpreis 01/08, elle a été finaliste pour le prix Inge Morath 08 et sélectionnée pour l'Atelier Eddie Adams XXI. Elle a été choisie pour recevoir une bourse de la "Fondation de la Vocation" belge en 2009 pour son projet d'Haïti.
Ses images ont été exposées lors de la Photokina à Cologne, 08 et les projeté à "Visa pour l'image" 08 à Perpignan. Elle avait une exposition dans le musée "Ludwigforum" à Aix-la-Chapelle, en Allemagne, en Septembre 2009.
