Open Photojournalism Education Network

Hello all

as we move into our second full year of activity, we want to get feedback and involvement from you all on where we
should be heading and what kinds of activities we should be undertaking. The
webinars will remain our core focus, but what we do in them can change or
adapt. Should we try to do some 'real world' events for example like a local
meet up or a mini conference/forum? What subjects should we be exploring?
Should we have more portfolio like sessions, peer to peer mentoring or
showcases?

Please give us you thoughts and ideas on what issues, concepts, problems etc should we be planning to discuss in the future

Please post your ideas here.

Some ideas so far from the members include

the relationship between photographers and ngos - journalists or advocates??

new forms of multimedia - beyond the slideshow

closing the gap between the subject and audience

can web2.0 social networking bring people together

the ethics of embedding with both military and ngo's

I've been running a photographic nonprofit, nationally and internationally for nearly 20 years. I would be happy to consult with OpenI on TRUE new PRODUCTIVE directions, but will not submit them in this anonymous section. You can email me directly as you have my email address. Best, p
Hi Openi

I think the idea of having a 'real world' event is a really good one. I would also like to see a peer to peer groups, I would be interested in getting together with a group of NGO image producers and discussing the issues that we face and how we resolve these.

Also, something that has recently been bugging me a lot and seems to be talked about frequently is photo competitions. There are so many of them now, many valid, some less so, but what value do they really hold for photojournalism and issue-based photography? I'd like to see some discussion around this.
