We ran a post
on the RESOLVE blog today from Ed Kashi about all the different ways he is getting his amazing imagery out into the world.
One of the things he talks about exploring is a way to create "feedback loops" between the documentarian, their subject, and the audience. For instance, he has posted essays written by students who use his Niger Delta work in their classrooms. He is working on grants to possibly create a website where the children living in the Delta can then contribute their own experiences and photos and dialogue directly with the kids in U.S. classrooms.
I think this is a very powerful idea and one that deserves exploring. Do people know of other photographers/organizations who are thinking in this way? Open Society Institute's Distribution Grants
come to mind, for on.
