Open Photojournalism Education Network

We ran a post on the RESOLVE blog today from Ed Kashi about all the different ways he is getting his amazing imagery out into the world.

One of the things he talks about exploring is a way to create "feedback loops" between the documentarian, their subject, and the audience. For instance, he has posted essays written by students who use his Niger Delta work in their classrooms. He is working on grants to possibly create a website where the children living in the Delta can then contribute their own experiences and photos and dialogue directly with the kids in U.S. classrooms.

I think this is a very powerful idea and one that deserves exploring. Do people know of other photographers/organizations who are thinking in this way? Open Society Institute's Distribution Grants come to mind, for on.

I am exploring ways to use photojournalist as teachers in a variety of subjects for school children 13-18yrs.......I have gotten some positive feed back and believe there is a growth area there to be developed. It is early stages but it would definetely work better if there is a pool of people to operate the system......
That sounds really interesting Martin. Are they using their own photojournalism as part of the curriculum or are you just bringing the photojournalists to teach in general? What kind of pool are you thinking about? I group of photojournalists who are trained as teachers perhaps? Who could be hired out to schools or for after school projects?
